Singapore company DE.MEM Pte Ltd to build water treatment facilities in Vietnam
Letters of Intent signed at Singapore InternationalWater Week will see projects producing up to 46,000 m3 of water a day built in the Hanoi and Bac Ninh Provinces
Singapore-based De.Mem Pte Ltd today signed Lettersof Intent (LOI) with the Hanoi Water Works Company and Dabaco Group to build watertreatment facilities valued at around USD$12 million in the Dong Anh district in Hanoi and Bac Ninh Province in Vietnam.
Hanoi Water Works Company Chief Project Manager, Mr. Trần Quốc Bình, and Dabaco Group’s Deputy General Director, Mr. NguyenThien Thai, signed the LOIs with Dr. Adrian Yeo, General Manager of De.Mem, at the Singapore International Water Week. The ceremony was witnessed by Mr Chew Men Leong, Executive Director, Environment and Water Industry Programme Office (EWI).
The Hanoi Water Works Company plant in the Dong Anh district will treat 30,000m3/day of groundwater to be supplied to residential areas, while the Dabaco plant will treat up to 16,000m3/day of water from the river to be supplied to a nearby industrial park. The first phase of the Dabaco plant will be 4,000m3/day. This demonstrates De.Mem’s success in securing projects for both urban and industrial water supply.
Dr Adrian Yeo, CEO of De.Mem, who will be designing, building, and operating the plants, said, “These plants are decentralised water treatment plants which supply clean water to nearby communities and industries ata low cost as lesser energy is needed to distribute the water over short distances, as compared to those of a centralised water distribution network.”
“We install advanced water quality and instrumentation systems that have been developed by our sister company MINT (Membrane Instruments & Technology) to monitor clusters of plants located in remote areas in real-time. The remote monitoring can potentially take place either through a centralized control facility or at the location desired by the customer, enabling optimization of energy usage and maintenance for each individual plant from a central location.”
In addition, the core filtration technology that will be used in these plants are ceramic membranes developed and manufactured by a Singaporean company, Ceraflo Pte Ltd. Ceramic membranes are more robust and have a longer life span as compared to traditional polymeric membrane technologies.
De.Mem had earlier, via its subsidiary, completed a 1,000m3/day water production facility in Vietnam that won an International Water Association (IWA) Project Innovation Award.
